Points for this evening’s show…
1. Who is the better bookseller, Hugo Chavez or Bill Clinton?
2. Liquids are OK on planes now in 3oz or less. It is no longer conceivable that two or more potential terrorists would work together to reach their goal. It’s not as if any of the 9/11 airplanes were taken over by multiple hijackers.
3. Superdome reopened. $185M repair/refurbishing, $115M from FEMA. 2005 NFL Payroll $2,622,719,180 (yes, $2.6B). 8 home games/year, 69082 fans per game, 552,656 fans per year total.
4. ???

Superdome refurbishing cost $185MM. It’s used for a lot more than just the half-million football fans. The Superdome attracted many, many conventions to New Orleans and generated a lot of tourism, job and tax revenue for the NO metro area. It was absolutely the most critical thing to re-build, both symbolically, but more importantly because this is the one single place other than the convention center that generates so much income for NO residents.
