AD Radio Equipment Fundraiser

AD Radio is currently holding a fundraiser to help us buy some new equipment. If you enjoy AD Radio, please consider contributing to help fund much-needed improvements. All contributions, small or large, are greatly appreciated. All contributors will be listed on several pages throughout the site, and will be given recognition during the actual show.

100% of all contributions will be used to improve the quality of AD Radio. We need some of the equipment right away, so we have not choice but to purchase it on credit. Your contribution will go directly towards paying off the balance of the equipment.

We have listed all the equipment we would like to incorporate into our studio below, and how each piece of equipment will improve AD Radio. To stretch the budget as far as possible, we have selected equipment that offers great value.

We held this fundraiser to purchase:

Broadcast PC Improvements. Our broadcast utility PC works hard, there is no doubt about that. The problem is that it is running a 1ghz processor (our old 2.5ghz processor died) on a very generic motherboard. We have had to disable many important functions (such as USB) in order to get the system to function with any degree of stability, but we still experience random lockups about once per day. It is only a matter of time before we have a phone system lockup while broadcasting. To fix this, we would like to replace the motherboard with a better brand, as a well as increase the CPU speed. We're not looking for anything fancy, just a stable workhorse that can keep the phones running smoothly. Product link goes to NewEgg since prices change every day. Priority: Medium · Product Link · Cost: ~$175 · Status: Postponed

Listener contributions have allowed us to purchase:

Phone System Interface Replacement. Some people call it a sound card. ;) Our phones are run through a computer, and that requires one sound card for each phone line. Since we have two lines, and also music and production material, that means that our broadcast utility pc has three soundcards. The system is currently very unstable due to driver conflicts. The soundcard we have chosen handles four simultaneous and separate inputs and outputs. This would allow for a huge improvement in call quality, and make the phone system much more stable. Priority: Medium · Product Link · Cost: $189 Pricematch to $169! Purchased! This item has been purchased. Thank you for your contributions.

Microphone Scissor Mounts. We have purchased a pair of Microphone Scissor Mounts. These are just like one of the spring-loaded desk lamps that you have seen, but they are made to hold several pounds without moving. They allow us microphone position flexibility without adding any of noise to the brodcast. The cheapest price I found for quality mounts was from Acme Distributors. Additionally, Marty from AcmeDistributors.com discounted the price for us as a donation to AD Radio. Also, if you need one of these-- we have an exclusive coupon code that will save you a couple of dollars. Product Link · Cost: $150.90 Lower price as contribution to show-- $130.38 Purchased This item has been purchased. Thank you for your contributions.

Microphone Preamps. Microphone preamps allow us to have a much better "studio" sound. They, in combination with the compressor listed below, allow us to automatically mute the studio microphones when neither of the hosts are talking. They also allow us to filter out specific noises, such as the low noises from our computers, or the high noises from their fans. We chose a low-end but feature-packed model from Behringer that will suit our purposes for a long time to come. Product Link · Cost: $129.99 Purchased This item has been purchased. Thank you for your contributions.

Dynamics Compressor. Using a compressor with the microphone preamps listed above allows us to mute the studio mics when neither of the hosts are talking. This makes the broadcast sound much more professional. We are also able to remove the "esss" sounds that occur during the show, and make the volume levels more even. We purchased a Behringer MDX-2600. Product Link · Cost: $109.99 Pricematch to $89.99! Purchased! This item has been purchased. Thank you for your contributions.

Cables. We needed some cables to hook up the Microphone Preamps and Compressors. You would think cables are cheap, but they are unfortunately not. Product Link 1, 2 · Cost: $49.38 Purchased! This item has been purchased. Thank you for your contributions.

Headphone Amplifier. A headphone amplifier lets us hook more than one pair of headphones up to a single headphone jack. It has separate volume controls, so each of us can adjust our headphone volume to our own taste. This creature-comfort makes broadcasting much more pleasant. Product Link · Cost: $19.95 Purchased! This item has been purchased. Thank you for your contributions.
